For Such a Time as This

Today is Thursday, July 2nd, 2026.
In two days, we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
We are currently hosting the World Cup with Canada and Mexico. Happily, the US has made it to the Round of 16. We still have lots of exciting games to look forward to.
I choose to focus on these events.
Thanks to Ancestry.com and findagrave.com, I have discovered at least five ancestors who either fought as soldiers in the American Revolution or contributed money or goods to the cause.
I am proud to be the descendent of these men who took a stand and contributed to the foundation of this extraordinary country.
As I stated in a previous post, I am thoroughly enjoying the reactions of the fans from around the world who are experiencing the US for the first time. Sometimes, it takes a foreigner to point out the good things we take for granted. Can somebody please pass the ranch dressing?
One of my favorite books in the bible is the Book of Esther. If you've never read this book, I highly recommend you take the time to do so. Esther was in a life or death situation the likes of which most of us will probably never face. She made a brave choice. She took a stand.
For if you remain silent at this time, relief
and deliverance for the Jews will arise from
another place, but you and your father's family
will perish. And who knows but that you have
come to your royal position for such a time as this?
Esther 4:14 (NIV)
You and I are here on July 2nd, 2026. I am in the United States. You are where you are.
We are here for a reason. Let's focus on the good things going on and the good things we can do for others.
