Today marks the 57th anniversary of the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969.

I still get chills every time I watch the footage looking out the window of the lunar module as the dust swirls and the module touches down.

"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

Neil Armstrong

The Apollo Space Program successfully landed six missions on the moon.

Astronaut Jim Irwin piloted the lunar module for Apollo 15 and landed on the moon on July 30, 1971.

While Irwin was a Christian before he went to the moon, he later said that his time in space made him feel God's power in a whole new way.

After leaving NASA, he founded the High Flight Foundation "as Goodwill Ambassadors delivering a message of hope and peace to the nations."

Irwin went around on speaking tours and he would always say:

"Jesus walking on earth was more important

than man walking on the moon."

How profound!

As I said above, I get chills whenever I think about that first lunar landing. Shouldn't I also get chills at the thought of Jesus walking on earth?

To think that Jesus willingly left the majesty of heaven to come to earth as a completely helpless baby and to live like us is as astonishing as landing on the moon.

Even more astonishing is the fact that He willingly died for us.

As a prisoner for the Lord,

then, I urge you to live a life

worthy of the calling you

have received.

Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)
