Pie Ladies and Pet Goldfish

Several years back we were on a road trip and listened to local radio stations all along the way.
My husband and I travel the way we did in the 80s: we listen to the radio. Back in the 80s we did listen to cassettes and CDs too but those have gone by the wayside...
We passed through many small towns and in one of those towns we heard two news stories that captured our attention.
The first was an announcement that a certain elderly widow, affectionately known as "The Pie Lady," had passed away. She had been a longtime member of a local church and her pies were very popular at potluck dinners.
What a lovely legacy to be remembered as "The Pie Lady."
What will my legacy be? What do I want my legacy to be? What do I need to do to leave behind the kind of legacy I want to leave behind?
MY SON, do not forget my
teaching,
But let your heart keep my
commandments;
For length of days and years of life
[worth living]
And tranquility and prosperity
[the wholeness of life's blessings]
they will add to you.
Do not let mercy and kindness and
truth leave you [instead let these
qualities define you];
Bind them [securely] around your
neck,
Write them on the tablet of your
heart. [Col 3:9-12]
So find favor and high esteem
in the sight of God and man.
[Luke 2:52]
Proverbs 3:1-4 (Amp.)
The other news item was about a house fire. Fortunately, the family was not at home at the time, so there were no injuries. Houses can be replaced--humans cannot be. Happily, the firemen were able to save the family's pet goldfish.
They saved the pet goldfish.
In the aftermath of a devastating house fire, the family members still had their pet goldfish.
Firemen save family pets every day. How often do they get credited for it in the news?
What a lovely little town where pie ladies and pet goldfish are the top stories of the day.
